Port Moresby offers an estimated 2590 rooms from its hotels, including the Airways, Grand Papua, Crown, Holiday Inn, Lamana, Laguna and Gateway hotels. The new major recent additions are the Stanley Hotel (2016) and Hilton (2018), both in the suburb of Waigani.

Coral Sea Hotels is PNG’s largest hotel chain, and includes properties in Port Moresby, Mt Hagen, Lae, Goroka and Kiunga.

Late 2019 saw the re-opening of the Loloata Island Resort outside Port Moresby after a complete redevelopment.

Outside of Port Moresby, the New Guinea Islands region contains many small-scale resorts, especially in New Ireland, Milne Bay, and New Britain.
